At McAfee Institute, we are committed to providing an exceptional learning experience that prepares students for real-world challenges in intelligence, investigations, and law enforcement. A common question we receive is why our training videos do not include built-in captions. Here’s why,and how you can still use captions if desired.

Why We Don’t Include Built-In Captions

Our certification programs are designed to mirror the environments professionals encounter in the field. Whether you’re working in open source intelligence (OSINT), cyber investigations, threat analysis, or criminal profiling, the reality is that most video and audio content you’ll be analyzing will:

• Have no captions

• Be in various languages or dialects

• Come from raw, unedited, or real-time sources

Professionals in intelligence and investigations are often required to extract meaning from uncaptioned, unfiltered media, and to do so accurately under pressure.

Because of this, we intentionally do not include built-in captions in our videos. Our goal is to ensure you build the same core competencies and resilience you’ll need when conducting real-world investigations.

Important Insight:

If a student is preparing for a career in intelligence or investigations, but relies on captions to process video content, it introduces a contradiction. Being able to analyze audio and video without transcription is a mission-critical skill in this line of work.

How to Enable Captions Using Google Chrome

We recognize that captions can help support learning, especially during the early stages. Fortunately, Google Chrome offers a built-in “Live Caption” feature that can generate real-time captions for most audio and video content played in the browser.

To turn on Live Caption in Chrome:

1. Open Google Chrome.

2. In the address bar, go to: chrome://settings/accessibility

3. Locate the Live Caption setting.

4. Toggle it ON.

Once enabled, Chrome will automatically display captions when videos or audio play, including all McAfee Institute videos accessed through the browser.

Balancing Accessibility and Professional Readiness

We care deeply about accessibility and continue to explore scalable, responsible ways to enhance the learning experience for all students. That said, our top priority is ensuring that every professional who trains with us is ready for the demands of the field.

This approach helps preserve the realism, rigor, and integrity that define our programs that thousands of professionals rely on every day.
