Technical Specifications For the CCFI

To complete the Certified Cryptocurrency Forensic Investigator (CCFI) course and install Bitcoin Core, please ensure your computer meets the following specifications.

These requirements support secure online coursework and performance needs for blockchain analysis.


System Requirements

Operating System:

Windows Users: Windows 10 (excluding S mode) or Windows 11
Mac Users: macOS 10.13 (minimum) to 10.15 or newer
Note: Linux distributions (e.g., Ubuntu 18.04+) are compatible for Bitcoin Core users


Processor (CPU):

Minimum: Dual-core processor (2 GHz or faster)
Recommended: Quad-core or higher (Intel i5/i7, AMD Ryzen 5/7 or equivalent)


Memory (RAM):

Minimum: 4 GB (ensuring less than 95% usage)
Recommended: 16 GB (ensuring less than 90% usage)


Disk Space:

At least 400 GB of free space, ideally on an SSD (for Bitcoin Core)
SSD recommended for faster access to blockchain data

Internet Connection:

Broadband (consistent connection required for Bitcoin Core)
Minimum download speed: 1 Mbps; recommended 12 Mbps
Minimum upload speed: 1 Mbps; recommended 3 Mbps


Webcam & Microphone:

Webcam: Minimum resolution 640x480, recommended 1280x720
Microphone: Required, separate from headphones (some webcams have built-in microphones)


Screen Resolution:

Minimum: 1366x768
Recommended: 1920x1080 or higher


Connectivity Ports:

Open ports: 1935, 843, 80, 443, 61613 (UDP/TCP)


Browser Compatibility:

Google Chrome (preferred) or Mozilla Firefox
Not Supported: Microsoft Edge, Google Chromebooks, Linux for ProctorU, virtual machines


Additional Notes:
No VPNs, TVN, or Proxies: For security, accessing course materials with VPNs or proxies is not permitted.
Storage for Blockchain Syncing: Bitcoin Core will need at least 400 GB of space, which will grow over time.
Unsupported Devices: ProctorU does not support tablets, Chromebooks, smartphones, or Windows 10 in S mode.
